My mum does the pastry every morning
By hand, before we open. That's the mantu, and it's the reason we sell out of it.
The rest of it is Afghan food cooked the way we'd eat it at home. Mantu, kabuli pulao, the charcoal kebabs. We're not fancy. The food's good and there's plenty of it.
Where we came from
Colombo Street, first. We moved to Addington in 2021 and we've been at 204 Lincoln Road ever since.
Who comes in
Families mostly, and big tables on the weekend. A lot of the Afghan community come in, and it's about half Kiwi families now. Weeknights we get people after work.
What people tell us
It tastes like someone's home rather than a restaurant. That's a customer's line, not ours, and it's the one we'd keep if we could only keep one.
We have never once put a dish on the menu we would not eat ourselves. That's the rule.
The one we're proud of
We did the food for about 200 people when the mosque had its opening. Took three days.
Come in
In the owner's own words:
"Come in, sit down, we'll look after you. Don't stand at the door waiting, just grab a table. If you don't know what to get, ask me, I'll tell you what's good today."
