What mantu is, and why we run out of it
Mantu is a dumpling. That's the short answer, and it's usually the one people want when they're sat at the table deciding.
You'll see it written a few different ways, mantu dumplings among them. Same thing.
The pastry gets made every morning
My mum still does the pastry for the mantu by hand, every morning, before we open. That's the whole reason we sell out of it. When it's gone it's gone, and we're not going to make more out of something that came out of a packet.
Somebody wrote this on our Google listing, and it's the line we're proudest of:
"Best mantu in Christchurch, and I have tried them all."
When to come for it
Weeknights we open at 5. Saturday and Sunday we're going from midday.
Whichever night you pick, come earlier in the evening rather than at the end of it. The mantu is the first thing to go.
